Kitchen Helper

About the role

The Kitchen Assistant supports chefs with basic food preparation, mise en place, kitchen cleaning and maintaining high standards of food safety, hygiene and sanitation. The ideal candidate is a team player with a positive attitude, a willingness to learn and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced kitchen.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare ingredients for hot and cold kitchens: washing, peeling, cutting, chopping and portioning vegetables, fruits, meat, poultry and other items.
• Support daily mise en place so ingredients and equipment are ready for service.
• Help prepare salads, sandwiches, garnishes and simple appetizers under chef supervision.
• Organize and replenish ingredients, utensils and supplies at workstations.
• Follow instructions from the Chef de Partie, Sous Chef and other senior kitchen staff.
• Keep workstations, equipment and storage clean and organized; wash and sanitize utensils, cutting boards and equipment.
• Handle food safely: proper storage, labeling, date marking and FIFO rotation.
• Receive and store deliveries correctly, and report damaged or expired items to the supervisor.
• Replenish ingredients during meal preparation and service, segregate waste and follow waste management procedures.
• Adhere to personal hygiene, HACCP principles and local food safety regulations, and follow health and safety rules.
• Take part in scheduled deep cleaning and other maintenance, and perform other reasonable duties as instructed.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Prior experience as a kitchen steward or similar role in a professional kitchen is preferred.
• Ability to follow instructions and work in a fast-paced environment with attention to detail.
• Reliability, punctuality, effective communication and teamwork.
• Flexibility to work shifts, including evenings, weekends and holidays.
