Lead Instrument & Controls Engineer – Offshore Subsea Project

About the role

The Lead Instrument & Controls Engineer will head all instrumentation, control systems, functional safety and automation activities for ADNOC offshore projects. The role ensures safe, reliable and cost‑effective engineering solutions from FEED through to commissioning and start‑up.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate I&C engineering across the project lifecycle, managing a team of engineers and specialists.
• Develop and review instrument indexes, datasheets, specifications, hook‑up and layout drawings, and ensure proper selection of field instruments for offshore conditions.
• Design and approve system architectures for DCS, ESD, fire‑gas, PLC, SCADA and integrated control & safety systems, incorporating cybersecurity requirements.
• Participate in HAZID, HAZOP, SIL assessments and ensure compliance with IEC 61508/61511 standards.
• Prepare technical requisitions, evaluate vendor bids, review vendor documents and monitor supplier performance.
• Support construction, FAT/SAT, pre‑commissioning, commissioning and start‑up activities, providing technical guidance on site.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Instrumentation, Electronics, Control Systems, Electrical or related engineering discipline (Master’s preferred).
• Minimum 15 years of I&C engineering experience in oil & gas, with 5‑8 years in a lead role on offshore EPC/EPCM projects.
• Proven experience with ADNOC Offshore (or similar major offshore operators) on greenfield and brownfield developments.
• Strong knowledge of ADNOC Offshore engineering standards, IEC, ISA, API and ISO requirements.

• Distributed Control Systems (DCS), Emergency Shutdown Systems (ESD), PLC, SCADA, Integrated Control & Safety Systems (ICSS).
• Fire & Gas Detection, Functional Safety Engineering, SIL assessment, IEC 61508/61511 compliance.
• Instrumentation design, specification and layout for pressure, temperature, flow, level, valve and analyzer equipment.
• Software: AVEVA Instrumentation, SmartPlant Instrumentation, AVEVA Engineering, AutoCAD, E3D, Navisworks, Aconex.
• Control system platforms: Honeywell Experion, Yokogawa Centum VP, Emerson DeltaV, Siemens PCS7, Schneider EcoStruxure.
