Material Inspector for Infrastructure Projects

About the role

Zutari is seeking a detail‑oriented Materials Inspector to ensure that construction materials used on infrastructure projects meet approved specifications and quality standards. The role works closely with site supervision, contractors, laboratories and quality teams to support safe and sustainable project delivery.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out routine site inspections, sampling and testing of materials such as concrete, asphalt, soils, aggregates and steel.
• Verify material identification, certification and traceability before acceptance for use.
• Record and report non‑conforming materials and support resolution with the project team.
• Witness and monitor laboratory testing in accordance with inspection and test plans.
• Inspect material handling, storage and protection practices on site.
• Maintain accurate inspection records, sampling registers and testing logs.
• Liaise with resident engineers, contractors, laboratories and health‑and‑safety teams to ensure coordinated delivery.

Required profile

• Diploma or degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Technology, Materials Engineering or related field.
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in materials inspection on major infrastructure projects (roads, bridges, tunnels, water or utility networks).
• Familiarity with accredited laboratory testing procedures and non‑conformance reporting.
• Ability to read and interpret drawings, technical submittals, material certificates and test results.
• Strong attention to detail, sound judgement and collaborative working style.
