Moodle Tech Lead

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Moodle/LMS Technical Lead to own the architecture, development, integration and lifecycle management of a large‑scale learning platform. This hands‑on leadership position combines deep Moodle engineering with team mentorship and cross‑functional collaboration.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the design, configuration, customization and implementation of Moodle/LMS architecture.
• Drive custom Moodle plugin and module development, code reviews and technical support.
• Design and manage integrations with identity providers, content platforms and enterprise applications using standards such as LTI, SCORM and xAPI.
• Oversee CI/CD pipelines, releases, patches, version upgrades and environment management.
• Ensure platform performance, scalability, availability, security, caching and capacity planning.
• Define technical standards, development practices, governance and troubleshoot complex L3 issues.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or related field with 6+ years of Moodle/LMS engineering experience.
• Minimum 2 years in a technical lead or lead engineer role, mentoring software engineers.
• Proven experience delivering LMS solutions in academic, training or large‑scale learning environments.
• Strong understanding of course structures, enrollment, assessments, grading and reporting workflows.

Required skills

• Moodle core and plugin architecture, PHP development.
• Database expertise: MySQL, PostgreSQL, MariaDB.
• Learning standards: LTI, SCORM, xAPI.
• Authentication protocols: SAML, OAuth, LDAP, SSO.
• Linux‑based hosting, API integration, CI/CD and release management.
• Performance tuning, scalability, availability and security best practices.
