Principal Engineer - ITS

About the role

AECOM is seeking an experienced Principal ITS Engineer to lead the technical delivery of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) and Traffic Control Systems (TCS) projects in Abu Dhabi and across the GCC. The successful candidate acts as technical lead for the ITS team, giving direction and supervision to Senior ITS Engineers, ITS Engineers and CAD/BIM technicians. The role is hybrid.

Key responsibilities

• Lead ITS and TCS design from concept, schematic, detailed design, tender to IFC stages, as applicable
• Supervise Senior ITS Engineers, ITS Engineers and CAD/BIM resources, including task allocation, technical direction and quality review
• Own ITS deliverables and ensure they are complete, coordinated and compliant with project and authority requirements
• Develop and review designs for traffic signals, ITS field equipment, communications infrastructure, CCTV, VMS/DMS, vehicle detection, traffic monitoring and roadside infrastructure
• Prepare and review drawings, specifications, design reports, BOQs and tender documentation
• Ensure compliance with ITC Abu Dhabi ITS standards, manuals, standard drawings and other UAE standards
• Lead technical coordination and submissions to ITC and other authorities, and respond to comments
• Coordinate ITS interfaces with Roads, Traffic, Street Lighting, Electrical, Utilities, ICT/Telecom, Security and other disciplines
• Review Concept of Operations, system architecture and communication/network requirements
• Attend and lead technical meetings with clients, authorities, contractors and consultants
• Support proposals, technical methodologies, fee estimates and resource planning for new opportunities

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, ICT, Electrical/Electronics or Telecommunications Engineering or a closely related discipline
• Preferably 12-15 years of relevant experience, with significant ITS and TCS design and delivery experience
• Current ITC Abu Dhabi ITS Approved Engineer / SANAD certification (mandatory)
• Demonstrated experience leading ITS design teams and coordinating with multidisciplinary teams
• Experience across multiple project stages, preferably through detailed design, tender, construction and handover
• Professional registration, Chartered Engineer status, PMP or equivalent certification is advantageous
