R&D Senior Chemist – Protective Coatings

About the role

The R&D Senior Chemist will develop and maintain protective coating products, handling formulation, testing, and evaluation of coatings, binders, and raw materials. The role also supports R&D strategy and knowledge transfer across the organization.

Key responsibilities

• Own and drive assigned products, assets, projects, and global transfers end‑to‑end, including planning, formulation, testing, validation, and documentation.
• Independently execute projects, coordinate larger tasks, and meet timelines and quality targets while providing technical recommendations based on data.
• Support compliance with internationally accepted performance and certification requirements through robust test planning, execution, and interpretation.
• Contribute to new global/regional innovation projects with a focus on sustainability‑driven developments.
• Coach junior chemists and technicians, ensuring knowledge transfer and competence building.
• Ensure strict adherence to HSEQ requirements and governance for raw materials, formulations, and test result documentation.

Required profile

• Master’s degree with at least 10 years of relevant experience, or Bachelor’s with 12 years, or PhD with 5 years.
• Strong knowledge of protective coatings formulation, binder systems, and curing chemistries.
• Experience with performance validation (weathering, corrosion, accelerated testing) and familiarity with international test methods and standards.
• Proven ability to manage tasks and projects independently with strong structure and follow‑up.
• Fluent in verbal and written English.
