Senior Electrical Technician - Steel Melting Plant

About the role

Emirates Steel Industries is looking for a Senior Electrical Technician for the SMP1 shift in its Steel Melting Plant in Abu Dhabi. The role covers electrical maintenance during the day shift, keeping corrective and preventative work to the right standard and safely and on time so that plant utilisation is maximised at minimum cost. The technician works closely with other technical and production teams.

Key responsibilities

• Plan electrical maintenance work according to safety rules, inspection reports and work orders, following risk assessments and job procedures
• Analyse the previous day's and shift's activities with the supervisor to set action plans that reduce line stoppages and faults
• Guide, monitor and assist in training new team members
• Provide technical input to resolve major maintenance problems and minimise downtime
• Assist the supervisor with spare parts management and the annual budgeting data and reports
• Help develop UAE national trainees and employees for targeted positions under the National Development Program
• Follow the ESI Integrated Management System for health, safety and environment
• Carry out scheduled preventive maintenance, calibration of equipment and instruments, corrective maintenance, troubleshooting and major repairs in line with the nuclear QS program requirements
• Meet production staff daily to agree shutdown schedules and review service standards
• Ensure job details are correctly entered into maintenance systems and review outstanding jobs weekly
• Implement plant cleanliness programmes and help plan plant improvements and expansions

Required profile

• Diploma or trade certificate (ITI) in electrical or electronic engineering
• 5 years of electrical maintenance experience in a steel plant (6 years for trade certificate holders), preferably in a steel melting and billet casting plant with higher automation
• Training on electrical and automatic systems for steel melting and billet casting plants
• Nice to have: experience working in the Middle East and familiarity with local rules and climate, and experience with health and safety compliance systems

Required skills

• Fully conversant with the steel melting and billet casting processes
• Fair knowledge of Level 1 automation systems for steel melting and billet casting
• Maintenance experience of medium voltage substations, transformers, switchgear, PLCs, drives and motors
• Basic office software such as word processing and email
• Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS), preferably SAP, and ability to instruct others on its use
