Senior PC Application Software Engineer

About the role

EDGE’s POWERTECH centre is seeking a Senior PC Application Software Engineer to lead the development of power electronics architectures for motor drive and generator units. The role involves designing high‑performance inverter, rectifier and bridge stages for various electric machines and ensuring hardware meets stringent aerospace and defence standards.

Key responsibilities

• Develop power electronics architectures for motor drive and motor generator units (MGU).
• Design inverter, rectifier, and bridge stages for PMSM, BLDC, and brushed DC machines.
• Create gate driver, protection, and isolation circuits for high‑power switching.
• Select power semiconductors (MOSFET, IGBT, SiC/GaN) and perform loss and derating analysis.
• Design magnetics, DC‑link and EMI filter stages, and perform thermal and cooling analysis.
• Perform schematic design, high‑current/high‑voltage PCB layout and simulation using LTspice, PLECS, PSIM or Simulink.
• Ensure designs comply with EMC/EMI and environmental qualification requirements and support power stage bring‑up and testing.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical/Electronics Engineering or related field.
• Minimum 5 years of hands‑on experience in power electronics and motor‑drive hardware design.

Required skills

• Power electronics architecture and inverter design.
• Gate‑driver and protection circuit design.
• Power semiconductor selection (MOSFET, IGBT, SiC, GaN) and loss calculation.
• Magnetics design and high‑current PCB layout (Altium Designer, Mentor PADS).
• Thermal design and cooling analysis.
• Simulation tools: LTspice, PLECS, PSIM, Simulink.
• EMC/EMI‑aware design practices.
• Familiarity with MIL‑STD‑461, MIL‑STD‑810, MIL‑STD‑704, RTCA/DO‑160 and RTCA/DO‑254.
