Specialist, Economic Model

About the role

This role ensures that economic models used for production optimization and economic evaluations of feedstock and product imports and exports are fit for purpose and kept up to date. It also supports site teams with economic analysis, margin reporting and scenario studies, and acts as the focal point coordinating with the refinery on actual yield patterns, material balances and process constraints.

Key responsibilities

• Build and maintain economic and linear programming (LP) models, including enhancements and updates of business constraints and pricing data
• Evaluate feedstock purchases, product and intermediate sales and other business cases, and prepare supporting documentation and presentations for commercial decisions
• Develop daily, weekly and monthly margin reports and retro analysis of plan versus actual performance
• Support the Senior Specialist in monthly variance analysis, product quality KPIs, yield patterns and margin losses from shutdowns and process limitations
• Oversee the Profit Improvement Plan (PIP) at sites, run scenario analyses for shutdowns and slowdowns, and give weekly economics presentations to refinery management
• Supervise the assigned team, contribute to department budgets, implement policies and procedures, and report on performance and continuous improvement

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Science, Business, Economics or equivalent; additional business qualification is an advantage
• 8 years of experience building and interpreting economic models, preferably in oil, gas or petrochemical plants
• Knowledge of the oil and gas industry
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and proficiency in written and spoken English; knowledge of Arabic is preferable
