Studio Manager - Architecture

About the role

A respected, design-led architectural practice in Dubai is looking for a Studio Manager / Operations Manager to own the business side of the studio. The role runs day-to-day operations, shapes commercial outcomes and acts as a trusted second-in-command to the Founding Principal. It is not a design role and not purely business development; it suits a commercially minded, operational and politically savvy leader who can represent the practice with ultra-high-net-worth clients.

Key responsibilities

• Commercial: prepare and negotiate fee proposals and contracts, manage variations, protect fee recovery and lead project close-out, and handle commercial disputes with clients and consultants
• Operations: oversee team utilisation, resource planning and leave approval, drive accountability to agreed programmes and deadlines, run weekly studio management meetings and keep the studio running smoothly alongside the Practice Coordinator
• Leadership: act on behalf of the Founding Principal in their absence, represent the practice externally with clients, consultants and industry stakeholders, and set expectations and challenge where necessary
• Business development: identify and assess new opportunities, build relationships with developers, clients and key market contacts, and lead prospects to close in partnership with the Founding Principal

Required profile

• Significant senior-level experience (typically 12+ years) in a commercial, operational or leadership role in architecture, design or the wider built environment
• Background such as practice manager, development manager, project director, commercial director or client representative, or an architect/designer who moved into a commercial or business leadership role
• Proven experience in the UAE market with an established network and an authoritative presence in the region; candidates must already be UAE-based
• Demonstrated commercial acumen, including fee proposals, contract negotiation, variations and dispute resolution
• Experience managing resources, utilisation and studio operations
• Confidence with ultra-high-net-worth clients and senior stakeholders, and the authority to challenge clients, consultants and internal teams
