Automotive Technician

About the role

An Automotive Technician works in a dealership setting, inspecting, diagnosing and repairing vehicles so that they remain safe, reliable and perform well. The role covers diagnostics, repairs, maintenance, customer communication and record keeping.

Key responsibilities

• Use diagnostic tools to identify mechanical and electrical issues, inspect vehicles and plan repairs
• Repair or replace components such as engines, transmissions, brakes and electrical systems, following repair manuals and technical specifications
• Carry out routine maintenance like oil changes, tire rotations and fluid checks
• Keep customers informed about problems, repair options, costs and timelines, and answer their questions professionally
• Maintain detailed repair records, including parts used, labour hours and diagnostic findings, and complete repair orders
• Work with service advisors and the parts department on accurate billing and parts ordering
• Ensure repairs meet dealership and manufacturer standards, and carry out post-repair inspections
• Follow safety protocols, manufacturer standards and proper handling of hazardous materials and waste
• Collaborate with other technicians and staff for an efficient workflow
