Combustion Design Senior Engineer

About the role

The Gas Turbine Combustor Engineer will design, analyse, develop and support combustor systems for micro‑jet engines, translating customer requirements into high‑performance, low‑emission designs.

Key responsibilities

• Define combustor requirements from engine cycle conditions, including thrust class, pressure loss, emissions and temperature constraints.
• Translate system requirements into a combustor concept, selecting architecture, fuel injection, dilution and cooling strategies.
• Perform preliminary sizing using 1‑D modelling and empirical correlations, then refine designs with high‑fidelity CFD.
• Analyse flow, mixing, ignition, flame stability, liner heat load and exit temperature to optimise performance.
• Evaluate design sensitivities to geometry, fuel scheduling, airflow split and manufacturing tolerances.
• Support CFD, rig and engine testing, correlate results and iterate designs through concept to verification phases.
• Collaborate with performance, aerodynamics, mechanical, materials, manufacturing and test teams to ensure integration.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, Thermal Engineering or related field.
• 8–10 years of experience in gas‑turbine combustion, combustor design or propulsion system development.
• Strong background in combustor fundamentals: fuel injection, swirl, flame stabilisation, liner cooling and temperature management.
• Proven experience in full combustor design process and correlating analytical/CFD results with test data.
• Familiarity with manufacturing processes, geometric tolerancing and design‑for‑manufacture for hot‑section components.
