Commissioning Engineer - MV/LV Switchgear & Protection

About the role

Siemens' Smart Infrastructure team in Abu Dhabi is hiring a Commissioning Engineer for utilities, oil and gas and industrial substations. The role covers installation, testing and commissioning of electrical power system equipment such as MV/LV switchgears, protection relays and control panels.

Key responsibilities

• Install, test and commission MV/LV switchgears, power and distribution transformers, current and voltage transformers and main, backup and busbar protection relays in power plants and substations.
• Carry out fault troubleshooting and analysis for switchgears and protection relays.
• Prepare method statements, NCR, incident and RCA reports.
• Support the engineering manager and project manager on site planning and execution before mobilization.
• Train operating personnel on commissioned electrical equipment.
• Follow HSE principles and adhere to Siemens and main contractor safety rules.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in electrical or electronic engineering from a local or international university or technical institute.
• Proven experience in the utilities and oil and gas industry.
• Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience installing, testing and commissioning MV/LV switchgears, transformers and protection relays.
• Open to travel within the Middle East.
• Good written and spoken English and teamwork skills.

Required skills

• In-depth knowledge of protection schemes and relays, including overcurrent, earth fault, line differential, line distance, transformer differential, under-frequency and LIBBP/HIBBP relays.
• Familiarity with OMICRON secondary injection test kits (CMC356/CMC500) and modules.
• Knowledge of IEC 61850, preparation of DIGSI projects and control logic in BCPU/BCU (SCD, ICD, CID files).
• Experience with different manufacturer protection relays is an added advantage.
