Head of Performing Arts (January Start)

About the role

Al Rabeeh Academy, a progressive British curriculum school in Abu Dhabi, is looking for an experienced and passionate Head of Performing Arts to join from January 2027. The postholder leads the department while maintaining a teaching timetable across Key Stages 3, 4 and 5, drives high standards of teaching and learning, develops the curriculum, supports staff and raises achievement. Teaching GCSE Performing Arts is essential; A Level experience is desirable.

Key responsibilities

• Teach engaging, well-structured lessons aligned with the British curriculum, leading high-quality performances, productions and enrichment opportunities.
• Lead, inspire and manage the Performing Arts department, ensuring consistent standards of teaching, learning, assessment and student achievement.
• Develop a clear vision for the department and drive continuous improvement, innovation and excellence.
• Plan, direct and oversee productions, concerts, showcases, performances and community events.
• Monitor teaching quality through lesson observations, coaching and mentoring, and support staff development.
• Manage departmental budgets, resources, facilities and specialist equipment.
• Promote Performing Arts across the school and wider community through competitions, partnerships and extracurricular activities.
• Work with senior leaders on whole-school improvement and participate actively in school events and professional development.

Required profile

• Fluent English speaker.
• Bachelor's degree in Education or a relevant subject with PGCE / QTS (or equivalent).
• Experience teaching the English National Curriculum, preferably in an international setting.
• Ability to teach Performing Arts (Drama, Dance and/or Music) up to at least GCSE, ideally A Level.
• Strong classroom management, leadership of a team, communication and organisational skills.
