Lab Technician - Infrastructure Materials Testing

About the role

AECOM is looking for a Lab Technician to join its project team in Abu Dhabi. The role involves carrying out field and laboratory tests on construction materials used in infrastructure projects, verifying compliance with project specifications, approved standards and quality requirements. The position is full-time and on-site.

Key responsibilities

• Perform laboratory and field tests on soil, aggregates, concrete, asphalt and other construction materials
• Carry out soil and earthworks testing, including moisture content, particle size distribution, Atterberg limits and compaction tests
• Conduct field density tests and verify compaction of backfill, subgrade, subbase and road base materials
• Perform concrete tests such as slump tests, temperature checks, cube preparation and compressive strength testing
• Test aggregates for grading, specific gravity and water absorption
• Assist with asphalt testing and sampling in line with project specifications
• Collect, label, prepare and handle material samples correctly
• Operate, maintain and calibrate laboratory and field testing equipment
• Record test results accurately, prepare laboratory reports and report non-compliant results to the Laboratory Manager or QA/QC Engineer
• Coordinate with site inspectors, QA/QC engineers, contractors and approved testing laboratories
• Maintain equipment, records and a clean, safe working environment in line with quality and health and safety requirements

Required profile

• Diploma or technical qualification in Civil Engineering, Laboratory Technology or a related discipline
• Relevant experience in construction materials testing for infrastructure projects
• Experience operating laboratory and field testing equipment
• Ability to record test results accurately and prepare testing reports
• Attention to detail and a strong commitment to quality and safety
• UAE experience in construction materials testing is preferred

Required skills

• Good knowledge of soil, aggregate, concrete and asphalt testing procedures
• Familiarity with applicable testing standards and construction specifications
