Lead Structural Engineer

About the role

We are looking for a Lead Structural Engineer for an oil and gas operating company based in the United Arab Emirates. The role will lead the structural engineering discipline, ensuring design quality, safety and compliance across complex projects.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in the development of the design basis and ensure project standards and functional specifications are suitable.
• Raise formal dispensation for any deviations from corporate standards to the relevant Technical Authority.
• Demonstrate visible commitment to excellent Project Health, Safety, Security and Environment (HSSE) performance.
• Review and approve design deliverables, following up on comments to ensure incorporation.
• Participate in Hazard Identification Study (HAZID), Hazard and Operability Analysis (HAZOP), model reviews and other project‑related reviews.
• Monitor progress of engineering design deliverables and propose corrective actions to avoid schedule overruns.
• Lead the management of change process, including engineering reviews, variation order proposals and coordination with the discipline Project Manager.
• Support procurement activities such as evaluating technical submissions for invitations to tender.
• Co‑operate with Operations representatives to support readiness for handover, commissioning and safe operation.

Required profile

• Degree‑qualified Engineer, preferably Chartered/Professional Engineer.
• Minimum 15 years of engineering experience in an oil and gas environment.
• Pragmatic, self‑motivated and demonstrates initiative, taking ownership of issues through to completion.
• Excellent verbal and written English communication skills.
• Ability to work in an organised, structured fashion within time constraints.
• Willingness to interact directly with people and enjoy working in a multicultural team.
• UAE Driving License.
