Legal Officer – Collections and Recovery

About the role

Emirates NBD’s Collection & Recovery Department safeguards the bank’s asset quality by pursuing legal remedies for overdue financing facilities. The Legal Officer will lead legal recovery actions across personal loans, credit cards, auto loans, home loans and SME facilities, ensuring compliance with UAE civil law and Central Bank regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Review delinquent and non‑performing accounts referred for legal escalation.
• Analyse financing contracts and assess the legal viability of actions.
• Prepare and issue legal notices, demand letters and court submissions in coordination with internal legal teams and external law firms.
• Initiate legal actions for bounced cheques, unpaid debts or contract breaches through the UAE judicial system.
• Coordinate with external legal advisors, police and court authorities to ensure proper filing and follow‑up.
• Track and report case progress, hearing dates, judgments and enforcement status.
• Collaborate with collections, credit and risk teams to maintain case consistency and approval workflows.
• Recommend settlement, restructuring, repossession or legal closure based on cost‑benefit analysis.
• Maintain accurate legal documentation in the bank’s MIS and support audits and regulatory reviews.

Required profile

• UAE national (family book holder).
• Bachelor’s degree in Law.
• Excellent oral and written communication in English.
• Proficiency in MS Office, legal tracking systems and banking software.
• Ability to interpret banking concepts for legal enforcement.
• Skilled in preparing legal documents and reviewing contracts.
