Phlebotomist

About the role

The Phlebotomist will perform safe, accurate, and timely specimen collection while ensuring proper patient identification and adherence to infection‑control protocols. This role supports laboratory operations by minimizing pre‑analytical errors and contributing to high‑quality patient care.

Key responsibilities

• Collect blood specimens using venipuncture, capillary or finger‑stick methods and verify patient identity before each draw.
• Label samples correctly, maintain equipment sterility, and transport specimens to the laboratory following ISO 15189, JCI and local regulatory standards.
• Observe patients for adverse reactions, document procedures, and communicate results with medical staff.
• Follow all safety and biohazard disposal procedures, including proper handling of sharps and hazardous materials.

Required profile

• Certificate of training in an approved Phlebotomy program or a Diploma/Degree in Medical Laboratory Technology or a related health field.
• Minimum one year of practical phlebotomy experience in a reputable medical laboratory (at least two years total laboratory experience).
• Current license to practice in the UAE (DOH/DHA/MOH) and fluency in spoken and written English.

Required skills

• Venipuncture, capillary and finger‑stick blood collection techniques.
• Specimen labeling, documentation and transport according to ISO 15189 and JCI standards.
• Operation of laboratory equipment such as biosafety cabinets, centrifuges and autoclaves.
• Compliance with infection‑control, OSH and biohazard safety protocols.
