PMC Junior Mechanical Engineer

About the role

Wood is looking for an experienced PMC Junior Mechanical Engineer in Abu Dhabi to support its Mechanical Engineering team on high-profile energy projects. The engineer helps review, coordinate, install, inspect, test and commission mechanical equipment and systems, ensuring compliance with project specifications, quality standards, safety requirements and project schedules.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in reviewing mechanical drawings, specifications, calculations and technical documents
• Support monitoring of mechanical construction, fabrication, installation and maintenance
• Review contractor and vendor submissions against project requirements and standards
• Take part in inspections, testing, pre-commissioning and commissioning
• Coordinate with engineering, construction and commissioning teams and help troubleshoot design, installation and operational issues
• Monitor progress and report technical risks and delays to senior engineers
• Ensure compliance with project specs, international standards, quality requirements and HSE regulations
• Support procurement by reviewing technical specifications, material requisitions and vendor docs
• Participate in site inspections, equipment walkdowns and punch-list closure
• Help prepare technical reports, method statements and engineering documentation
• Verify that works follow approved drawings and procedures, and support equipment review (pumps, compressors, vessels, heat exchangers, piping, HVAC)
• Attend project meetings, assist with handover, start-up and close-out, and maintain project records

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline
• Typically 0-5 years of experience in EPC, PMC, oil & gas, petrochemical, LNG, power or infrastructure projects
• Fluent written and spoken English
• Understanding of HSE regulations, risk assessment and safe work practices
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting and communication skills, and good attention to detail

Required skills

• Basic knowledge of mechanical systems: static and rotating equipment, piping, HVAC and utilities
• Familiarity with engineering drawings, P&IDs, equipment datasheets and specifications
• Knowledge of ASME, API, ASTM, ISO and ANSI codes and standards
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and AutoCAD; 3D modelling tools are an advantage
• Membership in a recognised engineering institution is an advantage
