PMC Senior Structural Engineer

About the role

Wood is looking for an experienced PMC Senior Structural Engineer in Abu Dhabi to act as the technical authority for structural engineering on behalf of a high-profile client. The engineer oversees and manages all structural engineering activities throughout the project lifecycle, ensuring designs, construction and installation are safe, efficient and compliant with project specifications, codes, standards and client requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Review and oversee structural engineering work by EPC contractors, consultants and vendors, and ensure compliance with project specs, client standards, international codes and regulations.
• Review and approve structural design calculations, reports, drawings and technical specifications.
• Verify the design and integrity of structural steel, reinforced concrete, foundations, buildings, pipe racks, equipment supports and industrial facilities.
• Review structural analyses for seismic, wind, blast, transportation, thermal and operational loading.
• Take part in HAZOP, constructability, 3D model, value engineering and technical workshops.
• Coordinate with civil, mechanical, piping, process, electrical, instrumentation and HSE disciplines.
• Evaluate technical bids, vendor documents and material specifications; monitor fabrication, construction and installation.
• Approve field changes, design deviations, technical queries and engineering change requests; ensure QA/QC and ITPs, welding procedures and material certifications are followed.
• Monitor contractor performance for safety, schedule and budget.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering; Master's degree preferred.
• Typically 15+ years of structural engineering experience in Oil & Gas, LNG, petrochemical, refinery, offshore, power or major industrial projects.
• Minimum 5 years in PMC, EPC or large-scale construction in a senior structural role.

Required skills

• Strong knowledge of international design codes such as ACI, AISC, BS, Eurocodes, ASCE, API, UBC and ISO.
