Principal Mobile SDK Engineer

About the role

A client of Flatgigs is building a mobile SDK that puts maps, search, routing and turn-by-turn navigation into customer applications. The company's public APIs and SDKs sit under Atlas, and it is now moving from an internal build to a commercial product used by external developers. The engineer owns the SDK architecture end to end, works alongside the routing, search and tile teams, reports to the Founder and CEO, and will grow and lead the mobile team as the SDK matures.

Key responsibilities

• Define SDK architecture with a private, replaceable mapping and rendering layer
• Build core navigation logic: turn-by-turn guidance, route snapping, off-route detection, rerouting, ETA and trip state
• Design idiomatic, thread-safe public APIs and provide reference docs, integration guides, migration notes and sample apps
• Ensure location quality through sensor fusion (GPS, accelerometer, gyroscope) and performance across battery, memory, tile caching and heat
• Implement background execution and multilingual voice guidance including Arabic and right-to-left labeling
• Handle release engineering, binary packaging and versioning, plus unit, integration and device testing
• Set architecture and standards and lead the growing mobile team

Required profile

• 10+ years building mobile software, largely on iOS
• Proven experience shipping an SDK or library used by external developers, with attention to semantic versioning and backward compatibility
• Advanced production experience with a major map or navigation SDK such as Mapbox, MapLibre, Google Maps SDK or equivalent
• Ability to design the boundary between a complex internal engine and a simple public surface, and to write documentation
• Strong self-direction, as design questions cannot be escalated in the first phase

• Expert Swift, including concurrency, background modes, lifecycle, permissions and memory/power behavior
• Strong advantage: Kotlin and Android, vector tiles, Metal or OpenGL rendering, GeoJSON, computational geometry, Kotlin Multiplatform, offline-first behavior, CarPlay, Arabic localization and team leadership
