Senior Field Service Engineer - GIS Specialist

About the role

Hitachi Energy is looking for a Senior Field Service Engineer - GIS Specialist in Abu Dhabi. The role covers aftermarket services and support for the installed base, and maintenance of High Voltage Gas Insulated Switchgears (132kV and above) for utility contractors in the UAE. It includes preventive maintenance, upgrades, troubleshooting, warranty repairs, installation and commissioning, and proactive services tailored to customer needs.

Key responsibilities

• Plan and execute installation and commissioning on site, and carry out design modifications and as-built documentation annotations.
• Provide on-site or remote technical support for GIS installation, commissioning and routine maintenance, and analyse technical problems.
• Take part in pre-commissioning meetings, prepare FAT documentation, site ITPs and ITRs, method statements and control programmes.
• Support tendering with commissioning plans and time/cost estimates, and recommend customers' service needs to the Service Sales team.
• Act as the OEM representative with customers, prepare tools, equipment and parts, and create service reports, time sheets and delivery notes.
• Manage interfaces with internal teams, feeder factories, the service department, customers and sub-suppliers, and build long-term customer relationships.
• Ensure compliance with safety regulations, industry standards and quality assurance requirements on power plant, substation, oil and gas or process industry sites.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree or diploma in an engineering field.
• Minimum 10 years of overall experience, with 6-8 years in high voltage equipment installation, testing, commissioning, repair and maintenance.
• Proven expertise in transmission GIS installation and commissioning, including substation services and preventive maintenance.
• Experience across the full lifecycle of substation projects: tendering, engineering and site commissioning.
• Proficiency in spoken and written English; fluency in Arabic is a plus.
• Certification in Hitachi Energy GIS products is a strong advantage.

Required skills

• Solid understanding of switchgear testing and commissioning and other key substation apparatus.
• Proficiency in computer applications.
• Strong interpersonal communication skills and a customer-focused, quality-driven approach.
