Senior Mechanical Engineer (MEP) - HVAC Design

About the role

A highly experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer with at least 5-6 years of UAE experience in HVAC design is sought. The engineer leads the design, analysis and execution of HVAC systems in line with project specifications, UAE local authority regulations and international standards.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and perform detailed building cooling load calculations using recognised methods and software.
• Design and review HVAC systems, including ducting layouts, chilled water systems, VRF systems, ventilation and equipment selection.
• Size and select equipment such as chillers, AHUs, FCUs, pumps, heat exchangers and exhaust fans.
• Prepare and review detailed design drawings, schematics and layouts in AutoCAD (Revit is an advantage).
• Evaluate designs for efficiency, cost-effectiveness and energy compliance.
• Ensure compliance with UAE local authority regulations (e.g. municipality, Civil Defense) and ASHRAE standards.
• Coordinate with electrical, plumbing, architectural and structural disciplines for MEP integration.
• Review shop drawings, technical submittals and material approvals; prepare BOQ, cost estimates and value engineering proposals.
• Guide junior engineers and draftsmen, support the site team during installation, testing, commissioning and handover, and attend client and consultant meetings as the HVAC technical representative.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• Minimum 5-6 years of experience as an HVAC design engineer.
• Strong expertise in HVAC load calculations and equipment sizing.
• Good knowledge of UAE building codes, ASHRAE standards and authority approval processes.
• Preferred: MEP contracting or consultancy experience, and knowledge of local authority regulations if based in the UAE.
