Specialist Safety Engineer – Technical

About the role

KBR’s Abu Dhabi PMC team is seeking an experienced Specialist Safety Engineer – Technical to support a major offshore oil & gas project. The role will be based at the client or contractor office in Abu Dhabi and will provide technical safety and process safety expertise throughout the project lifecycle.

Key responsibilities

• Provide technical safety and HSE support during FEED, detailed engineering, construction and commissioning phases.
• Identify, assess and mitigate hazards across design, construction, start‑up and operations, ensuring compliance with ADNOC and international standards.
• Lead and facilitate safety workshops such as HAZID, HAZOP, SIL, LOPA, Bow‑Tie, SIMOPS and ENVID studies and ensure follow‑up of recommendations.
• Review and verify process‑safety design requirements, safety‑critical elements, and develop technical safety calculations, datasheets and specifications.
• Coordinate safety requirements with mechanical, piping, instrumentation, electrical and civil disciplines and monitor critical risk controls.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (mandatory).
• Minimum 17 years of experience in the oil & gas industry, with at least 5 years on offshore projects.
• Proven experience in technical safety and process safety engineering on EPC/PMC projects, preferably with ADNOC offshore assignments.
• Strong knowledge of international safety standards (IEC, NFPA, API) and Process Safety Management requirements.

Required skills

• HAZID, HAZOP, SIL, LOPA, Bow‑Tie and ENVID safety studies.
• Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) and Process Safety Management (PSM) implementation.
• Hazardous Area Classification and fire‑gas safety design.
• Application of IEC, NFPA and API standards to offshore facilities.
• Risk assessment, loss prevention and safety‑critical element verification.
