Staff Nurse - ICU

About the role

American Hospital Dubai is hiring a Staff Nurse for its Intensive Care Unit. The nurse provides direct and indirect, age-specific care to assigned patients on scheduled shifts, covering nursing assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention, evaluation and care coordination, while abiding by Joint Commission International (JCI) requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Perform patient assessments and continual critical care assessment of physical and psychological needs, involving patients and families in the care plan
• Coordinate and prioritize care, revise care plans, initiate transfers and document in the medical record
• Maintain supplies and equipment, perform clerical work when needed and meet mandatory education requirements (fire, safety, infection control)
• Take part in staff meetings, unit committees, quality improvement activities and unit goal setting
• Handle narcotic and controlled drugs safely and maintain clinical competency
• Unit-specific duties include advanced physical assessment, ABG and basic ECG interpretation, monitoring hemodynamics, caring for implanted and central venous access devices, chest tubes, mechanical ventilation, tracheostomy care, PCA pumps, procedural sedation and defibrillator use

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in nursing (minimum 3 years full-time) or a nursing degree (minimum 2 years) with registration as a registered nurse from Canada, USA, UK, Ireland, South Africa, New Zealand or Australia; UAE nationals are exempt from experience and clinical training requirements
• Valid license to practice in the home country or last place of employment
• Minimum of 2 years of recent post-graduate ICU or PICU experience
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or equivalent
