Assistant Internal Shari'a Auditor (UAE National)

About the role

The Assistant Internal Shari'a Auditor supports the Internal Shari'a Audit function in Abu Dhabi. The purpose is to help assess the continuity and conformity of Shari'a rules and principles across audit assignments, so that management can be reasonably assured that Shari'a risk is kept at an acceptable residual level. The role is open to UAE nationals.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out preliminary surveys of departments and units subject to Shari'a audit, including familiarisation, identification of improvement areas, confirmation and planning of the detailed audit, working with the team leader and team members.
• Compile, review and summarise resolutions of the Higher Shari'a Authority (CBUAE-HSA) and the Internal Shari'a Supervisory Committee (ISSC).
• Review policies and procedures related to products and processes, and assist in developing and reviewing the Shari'a Audit Programme.
• Identify and evaluate Shari'a non-compliance risks, prioritising and quantifying them using defined rating scales, and identify and evaluate the effectiveness of Shari'a controls.
• Assist in risk assessment for finance products (assets) and in defining sampling methodologies (extensive, moderate and standard testing), including population definition, sample size and test documentation.
• Review and audit selected samples, prepare authority letters, and compile findings and exceptions sheets with causes, responsibilities, recommendations and management replies.
• Use the Shari'a Risk and Control Analysis, including control walk-throughs and evidence review, and document audit teams.

Required profile

• UAE nationality.
• University degree in Islamic Shari'a or a relevant specialisation.
• Professional certificate in Shari'a and Islamic banking audit from an organisation such as AAOIFI or CIBAFI (optional).
• Preferably a professional auditing certification such as CIA Level 1.
• Fresh graduate or up to 2 years of experience.

Required skills

• Arabic and English.
• IT skills.
• Knowledge of AAOIFI standards, CBUAE HSA resolutions, ADIB ISSC resolutions and the Institute of Internal Auditors standards.
