Research Scientist – Structural 3D Printing & Advanced Manufacturing

About the role

The Future‑GRID Technology Hub in the Division of Engineering at NYU Abu Dhabi seeks a motivated research scientist to lead cutting‑edge work in structural 3D printing, computational mechanics, and autonomous infrastructure inspection. The role involves independent research, mentorship of students, and contribution to grant proposals.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct innovative research on metal, concrete, and composite 3D printing, topology optimization, and vision‑based structural health monitoring.
• Develop autonomous and drone‑based inspection and vibration monitoring systems.
• Publish findings in peer‑reviewed journals and present at conferences.
• Mentor undergraduate researchers and supervise junior graduate students.
• Participate in writing research grant proposals.

Required profile

• PhD in Civil, Mechanical, Materials Engineering or a closely related field.
• Minimum of 6 years post‑PhD experience in relevant research areas.
• Strong communication and presentation skills with a proven publication record.
• Experience supervising undergraduate or graduate research projects.
• Formal training or certification in additive manufacturing, machine learning, AI, computer vision, robotics, or related secondary areas is a plus.
